Dear all, I hope that 2018 has ended well and that New Year‘s Eve led to a great start into the new year.
A popular tradition at the beginning of a new year is to make New Year‘s resolutions. Even though some resolutions are not particularly successful, forming them can lead to interesting and necessary changes in our professional and personal lives. So let us think positive (= resolution 1) and hear about Paper Trail‘s New Year‘s resolutions.
Resolution 1: See above, think positive! In grey and rainy or snowy January everything might look gloomy, but the days are getting longer, and there is always a silver lining. Also, our bodies need daylight to produce serotonin, so don‘t worry about gloomy evening thoughts – they are just the result of missing serotonin.
Resolution 2: Take proper holidays! Too often, I only take short holidays and bring along some work that I deem absolutely necessary to complete during the holidays. In 2019, I plan to take a real vacation. Holidays and nothing else for two weeks!
Resolution 3: Believe that small results will lead to bigger results. At the end of a typical working day in science and humanities, our output often seems insignificant, but the small bits and pieces of our research puzzle will eventually lead to a full picture.
Resolution 4: Set realistic and measurable goals! Apparently people with measurable and precise New Year‘s resolutions are more likely to succeed, so let us take baby steps, such as „post regular blog entries“. Erm...
So, with these resolutions Paper Trails wishes you a successful start into a great 2019!
